The FIELDMODULE, a mobile hygiene booth, forms the basis for showers, toilets and decontamination solutions, especially for decentralized field use. The hygiene booth can be equipped in a highly modular way for all operational situations. The FIELDMODULE enables immediate scaling of washing, sanitation and decontamination capacities in response to alternating challenges. A series of add-ons extend the basic version with functional features, such as pumps for water pressure and wastewater removal, heaters for providing hot water, red light for night-time operation or an awning for undressing in dry environment. The robust EPAL2 base tub provides sufficient storage space to contain all the necessary additional elements for transportation. Thus, efficient logistics and set-up in just a few minutes can be guaranteed by means of printed instructions.

The objective of this proposal is to enhance operational readiness and safety for first responders through a scalable, mobile hygiene and decontamination system that directly addresses current capability gaps in disaster and emergency response. The FMD-Decon system aims to provide an immediately deployable solution for critical field situations such as industrial accidents, chemical spills, or public health emergencies. By offering rapid decontamination and sanitation functionalities in one flexible platform, it supports the physical safety, health, and effectiveness of emergency personnel and civilians alike. Its relevance lies in the growing frequency and complexity of emergencies worldwide, which require modular and interoperable systems that can be quickly adapted to unpredictable scenarios. FMD-Decon is designed to support resilience across a range of missions, from civil protection to humanitarian aid, while contributing to the strategic goals of national and international disaster preparedness. Its proven field deployment, user-oriented modularity, and innovation in hygiene logistics make it highly relevant for modern emergency response needs.
The FMD-Decon system introduces a novel combination of mobility, modularity, and speed in field hygiene and decontamination. Unlike conventional systems that are bulky, time-consuming to deploy, or limited in function, FMD-Decon is built around the highly adaptable FIELDMODULE platform. Its innovation lies in the integration of shower, sanitation, and decontamination functionalities within a single transportable unit, which can be set up in minutes by non-specialist personnel. Key innovations include the use of a robust EPAL2 base tub as both a structural and logistical element, allowing all necessary components to be stored and transported in one system. Functional add-ons such as pressure pumps, water heaters, red light modules, and protective awnings allow tailored configurations depending on mission needs, without requiring technical modifications. This plug-and-play approach ensures flexibility while minimizing logistical burden. Furthermore, the design enables safe, linear workflows through separate entry and exit points—particularly important during contamination events. This, combined with printed setup instructions and intuitive design, results in a solution that is both technologically advanced and user-centric. Its innovation is further validated by early adoption in operational contexts and high interest at industry events like IFAT.
The FMD-Decon system resolves a critical gap in rapid-response hygiene and decontamination capacity for emergency scenarios. In disasters involving hazardous substances, such as chemical accidents, fires, or biological threats, there is often no adequate infrastructure available to decontaminate affected individuals or equipment quickly and effectively. This exposes both first responders and civilians to severe health risks and increases the chance of contaminant spread. FMD-Decon addresses this by offering a mobile, modular solution that can be deployed within minutes directly at the scene. It enables immediate establishment of functional decontamination corridors and sanitation facilities, even in remote or infrastructure-poor environments. The system minimizes exposure time to harmful agents, protects the operational integrity of protective gear, and supports safe workflows through clear separation of clean and contaminated zones. By combining hygiene, sanitation, and decontamination in one scalable system, FMD-Decon ensures continuity of emergency operations and protects human health when infrastructure is absent, overwhelmed, or compromised.
