Hybrid Edge

Hybrid Edge is a cross-functional, fully operational (TRL 9) innovation addressing multiple capability gaps identified by the DIREKTION consortium & aligned with those recorded by the International Forum to Advance First Responder Innovation(IFAFRI). It supports CG1-CG10 inclusive of real-time tracking, Multi-agency coordination & sharing between multiple actors, threat/hazard detection & monitoring, rapid scenario adaptation, integration of information for decision making, action intelligence and public awareness, interoperable communications, remote operations & information (big picture view) acquisition, connectivity and geo location/tracking services for responder health monitoring, protective and indoor visualization in low-visibility conditions. It also delivers geolocation-based risk mapping, even in connectivity blackspots such as rural and remote areas.


Technology Readiness Level (TRL 9): Hybrid Edge is fully operational/deployable across civil protection, first response, and resilience sectors. Field-tested and mission-proven, it enhances operations in both remote and high-demand environments. 


Innovation and Differentiation: In use for under three years globally, Hybrid Edge was developed with European Space Agency support, validating its technical and societal value. It integrates multi-orbit satellite, terrestrial, non-terrestrial networks, and Wi-Fi with edge computing, delivering a unified platform featuring dynamic bandwidth management. 


The all-in-one system ensures continuous connectivity for responders on-scene (indoor/outdoor/land/offshore) across various deployments e.g. vehicles, temporary sites, and portable units. It enables data sharing from IoT devices, UAVs, robotics, wearable sensors, and cloud-based tools-even under extreme conditions. Unlike conventional systems, Hybrid Edge is modular, scalable, and purpose-built for first responders and disaster resilience, setting a new standard in situational awareness and operational efficiency.

This ensures robust, real-time communication, coordination, and situational awareness-even in remote or infrastructure-deficient environments. 

    Hybrid Edge supports real-time GPS tracking and seamless inter-agency coordination; integrates live data from various sensors, unmanned systems, technology and wearables; and enables adaptive communication, information monitoring and sharing through AI-driven, dynamic network switching. It consolidates multiple data sources for improved public awareness and provides a secure, interoperable platform with a centralized management portal to facilitate cross-agency collaboration and standardized data exchange.
